The British Spartan is a compact armored personnel carrier developed as part of the CVR(T) (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked)) family and entered service with the British Army in the 1970s. Designed to provide rapid battlefield mobility, the Spartan carries a crew of three and up to four fully equipped soldiers while retaining the speed and agility that made the CVR(T) series famous. Powered by a lightweight engine and mounted on a highly mobile tracked chassis, the Spartan is capable of operating across difficult terrain and keeping pace with mechanized formations. Armed with a 7.62mm machine gun for self-defense, it was primarily used to transport specialist teams such as reconnaissance patrols, anti-tank detachments, mortar crews, and command personnel. Its combination of mobility, reliability, and versatility ensured a long service life, with Spartans serving in numerous British military operations from the Cold War through the early 21st century.
