120300 Ferret

The British Ferret armoured car was a compact and highly mobile reconnaissance vehicle developed in the postwar years to replace wartime scout cars in British and Commonwealth service. Entering service in the early 1950s, the Ferret combined excellent cross-country mobility with a low profile and reliable mechanical design, making it ideal for scouting, convoy escort, and internal security duties during the Cold War. Armed most commonly with a single .30 caliber Bren or L7 machine gun mounted in a small one-man turret, the vehicle carried a crew of two and relied on speed and agility rather than heavy armor for survival. Ferrets served extensively with British forces around the world, from Germany and Northern Ireland to Africa and the Middle East, and became one of the most recognizable British reconnaissance vehicles of the Cold War era.
