The BTR-50PU (101300) was a Soviet command and control variant of the BTR-50 amphibious armored personnel carrier, designed to provide mobile headquarters capabilities for mechanized and artillery units. Equipped with extensive radio and communications gear, it allowed commanders to coordinate operations while on the move, even across rivers and marshy terrain thanks to the BTR-50’s amphibious design. Retaining the basic armored hull for protection, the PU variant sacrificed troop transport capacity for enhanced command facilities, making it a vital asset for battlefield control and coordination within Soviet mechanized formations.
