Entering service in the 1970s with the British Army, the Striker was designed to provide long-range anti-armor firepower against the massive tank formations expected in a potential NATO-Warsaw Pact conflict in Europe. Armed with five ready-to-fire Swingfire anti-tank missiles mounted in a box launcher at the rear, the vehicle could engage enemy armor from concealed positions while exposing very little of itself to return fire. Its aluminum armor offered protection against small arms and shell fragments while maintaining excellent speed and cross-country mobility.
